The Mariana's Trench: The deepest area of our oceans. Located in the western Pacific, east of Philippines, around 200 km east of Mariana Islands, it is the least explored place on earth. The Challenger Deep is the lowest point of this trench, at 11,000 m (11 km) below sea level. The it's distinct crescent shape is 2,550 km and 69 km wide on average.
The Challenger Deep is located 322 km southwest of the U.S. territory of Guam.
In perspective, if Mount Everest was dropped into the Mariana's Trench, its peak would still be more than 1.6 km underwater.
The Mariana's Trench is one of many ocean trenches in the world. These extreme environments, as I mentioned earlier, are the least explored areas in the world. Did you know that more people have been to space than been in and explored oceans? Oceans are a habitat that need to be more thoroughly explored, even though there have been some explorations in the past, and they are one of the most amazing habitats on earth.
